CTM 122 - Construction Material and Equipment Safety Credits: 3 Lecture: Three lecture.
This course will introduce the student to safety in the Construction Industry and a foundation in applied construction mathematics. Emphasis will be placed on hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. Topics covered include: Fall protection, Electrocutions, struck-by and caught between hazards, Early hazard recognition, safety plans, safe transport and handling of construction materials and equipment, safe operation of trade tools and equipment, Scaffolding set-up techniques, stairway and ladder safety, and the proper use of personal proactive equipment
Course Outcomes: Students will be able to: 1. assess the Construction Industry as a professional career path;
2. demonstrate an understanding of fall prevention for a typical construction site;
3. demonstrate the proper techniques used for scaffolding erection;
4. identify and describe a great variety of construction related hazards;
5. prepare a safety plan for a construction site;
6. demonstrate and explain excavations and safety requirements;
7. demonstrate understanding of regulations concerning powder actuated fastening guns;
8. demonstrate understanding of the regulations concerning electrical safety;
9. demonstrate basic construction math skills.
