GLG 110 - Natural Disasters

Examine the forces behind natural disasters that have caused great loss of life and property throughout history with a focus on causes, impacts on human communities, and protective strategies.
Course Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
- Apply the principles of scientific inquiry to exploring natural disasters.
- Describe the processes that cause natural disasters.
- Identify the types of natural disasters that may affect different regions by examining the physical conditions.
- Evaluate human influences on the severity of natural disasters.
- Describe improvements in technologies for identifying and predicting natural hazards.
- Explain mitigation and/or risk management strategies in areas prone to natural disasters.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 098 or higher English course or placement above ENG 098.
