AIT 115 - Hydraulic Systems

Credits: 3
Lecture: Two lecture.
Lab: Three lab.

Introductory course in the principles of hydraulic system operation, components construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation, as well as the role of the individual components in an operating hydraulic system. Includes hydraulic fitting and seals, accumulators, cylinders, directional control valves (DVC), relief valves, check valves, pumps, filters, hoses, and a variety of hydraulic control circuits.

Course Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
           1. interpret basic fluid power schematics including identifying schematic

        symbols, process flow, and operation of the components and systems;

    2. start up and shut down a hydraulic system, and adjust hydraulic pressure control

        valves in a system that uses a fixed displacement pump;

    3. adjust hydraulic actuator speed using a flow control valve;

    4. inspect and change a hydraulic filter to maximize hydraulic fluid cleanliness;

    5. inspect, add, and change a hydraulic fluid;

    6. connect, adjust, and disconnect flexible and rigid hydraulic conductors;

    7. install and test the operation of components in a basic hydraulic linear or rotary

        actuator given a schematic;

    8. troubleshoot a basic hydraulic linear or rotary actuator circuit;

    9. effectively use computer applications, information systems, and programming;

  10. employ mechanical fabrication procedures;

  11. demonstrate ethical behavior and industry professional standards;

  12. practice effective oral and written communication;

  13. achieve common goals through effective collaboration.
