FNR 218 - Professional Development for Foresters
Credits: 1
Lecture: One Lecture.
This course is intended to develop professional skills for Forestry majors. The course will introduce students to expectations and professional conduct in preparation for further training and/or careers in forestry. As part of the course, students will evaluate their current skill set to identify skills that might be absent, but necessary to attain undergraduate studies via paid work experience, internships, volunteer work and/or coursework. Students will develop job seeking skills such as job searches, resumes, mock interviews, and other relevant skill sets.
Course Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
- identify and apply skills associated with the career competencies of career & self-development, professionalism, communication and equity & inclusion;
- articulate personal strengths and weaknesses;
- prepare a professional ethical statement;
- identify and demonstrate job search and application skills;
- demonstrate oral, written and non-verbal communication skills;
- explain the importance of equity and inclusion while developing a JEDI statement.
Pre/Corequisite(s): FNR 101 and ENG 102.
