ANT 102 - Introduction to Cultural Anthropology Credits: 3 Lab/Lecture: Three lecture.
Principles of cultural and social anthropology with illustrative materials from a variety of cultures with a focus on globalization. The nature of culture; social, political, and economic systems; religion, aesthetics, and language. Course Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- describe anthropology and the tools and approaches utilized by anthropologists when working with communities worldwide;
- investigate the concept of culture and the diversity between and within communities with an understanding of ethnocentrism, relativism, and reflexivity;
- explore and apply the various theoretical and methodological perspectives used in cultural anthropology, including applied anthropology;
- describe various aspects of culturally diverse social systems, including kinship, social stratification, economic, and political systems;
- investigate the diversity of human expression in the areas of belief systems language, and art;
- and describe culture change and the impacts of globalization on contemporary cultural communities.
General Education: Arts/Humanities; Social/Behavioral Sciences. Special Requirement(s): Ethnic/Race/Gender Awareness; Contemporary Global/International Awareness or Historical Awareness.
