ART 262 - Graphic Design II Credits: 3 Lab/Lecture: 1 Lecture. 5 Lab.
This course integrates design and typographic principles into communication design projects of moderate and increasing complexity. Course Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- create exercises and projects that demonstrate advanced application of design principles/elements: color, shape, texture, contrast, hierarchy, emphasis, movement, rhythm, semiotics, unity, balance, proportion/scale;
- create exercises and projects that demonstrate abilities in areas of craft and technical ability: advanced design craft; file-prep, printing, construction, software usage, as well as more advanced experiences designing for web, mobile, and motion projects;
- demonstrate understanding of the design process: research/personas, brainstorming/sketching, roughs, macro-comps, micro-comps, final presentation; introduction of site mapping, scenarios, wire framing, prototyping-design process for interactive platforms, and applying these steps to project creation;
- demonstrate ability to design for interactive platforms through the creation of exercises and projects;
- apply verbal communication skills for course research, and critiques and presentations;
- research a contemporary perspective of the design industry and demonstrate their understanding of the topic in a class presentation.
Prerequisite(s): ART 260 and ART 261, with grades greater than or equal to C. Corequisite(s): ART 263.
