Academic Advising at CCC

Coconino Community College offers academic advising services through both professional advisors and faculty members. These services are available in-person on all campuses, as well as remotely by phone or online, to support students’ academic success.

Academic advising is a vital part of every student’s journey at CCC - it supports success, satisfaction, retention, and graduation. Advisors are here to help students define academic and career goals, develop a personalized education plan, and select courses that align with their objectives. Advisors also connect students to valuable campus resources and help them explore career pathways that suit their interests and strengths.

New Students: Advisors can help students develop an education plan for goal achievement, select class schedules for an upcoming semester, explore majors and careers, and get connected to campus resources. Advisors will use available information (e.g., high school transcripts, multiple measures, and other data) to assist students in pursuing a program consistent with their educational goals and level of preparation. New students need to meet with an advisor during their first semester to complete a detailed academic plan.

Continuing Students: These students may enroll in courses for which they completed the prerequisites without an advisor’s approval. It is recommended that continuing students meet with an advisor in-person, online, or by phone if they:

  • Select courses for which prerequisites have not been met.
  • Are changing degree, major, or catalog year.
  • Need help reviewing academic progress.
  • Plan to transfer to a university.
  • Are experiencing academic difficulties.

Students can view their DegreeWorks Audit online on the myCCC portal. The DegreeWorks Audit is a computerized advising tool that details the requirements of the student’s program of study. The DegreeWorks Audit outlines progress toward academic goals, courses completed at CCC, transferred courses, and awarded credits. Student GPA is also computed. Please contact a campus advisor, advising@coconino.edu for more information.

CAREER SERVICES

CCC students can create a resume, explore high-demand careers, connect strengths to in-demand jobs, and discover the skills or education needed to get there. CARE provides faculty and staff with training, tools, and resources to recognize and respond to students or colleagues who may be exhibiting concerning, disruptive, or threatening behaviors. The CARE program enables students and employees to report such behaviors or incidents of misconduct, ensuring early intervention and connection to appropriate support services and behavioral health resources. CARE works in collaboration with Student Services, Human Resources, and Campus Safety to promote the safety and well-being of the campus community. For more information or to submit a concern, visit: https://www.coconino.edu/care.

CCC2UNIVERSITY

CCC has partnerships with Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Grand Canyon University. CCC students may transfer to their chosen university in as few as four semesters. Individual plans vary based on 15 credit hours per semester. Example: 2 years at CCC + 2 years at ASU, U of A, GCU, or NAU = Bachelor’s degree.

CCC students may meet with the Transfer Academic Advisor via Zoom or at the Lone Tree Campus if they are interested in aligning their CCC studies with one of these transfer options. Advising appointments can be made by visiting https://www.coconino.edu/advising. Students who prefer to meet directly with the university representatives can visit https://www.coconino.edu/transferring for their contact information, appointment links, campus visit schedules, and related events.

DISABILITY RESOURCES (DR)

Phone: (928) 226-4377

Location: Student Development Center, Lone Tree, Building 1

Webpage: https://www.coconino.edu/disability-resources

CCC is committed to providing college-wide educational support and assistance for students with documented disabilities. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act require that all CCC programs, services, and facilities be accessible to individuals with disabilities except where the action necessary to achieve accessibility would result in a fundamental alteration of the program or would impose an undue burden. Disability Resources works closely with other college departments and community agencies to enhance and support your educational choices. All efforts will be made to promote independence and the highest extent of integration into our learning community.

An individual with a disability is an individual with a documented impairment that substantially limits one or more of that individual’s major life activities. Recognized disabilities include, but are not limited to, mobility impairments, deafness, hard of hearing, blindness, visual impairments, learning disabilities, chronic medical conditions, and psychological disorders.

Services are available for all CCC students who provide the required documentation and meet eligibility standards. Accommodations are established on an individual basis through an interactive process and are tailored to the needs of each student.

If students have a documented disability, they can arrange for accommodations by contacting the office of Disability Resources (DR). Students are encouraged to bring/send in documentation and meet with DR staff as soon as possible upon enrolling as a CCC student. Upon receipt of appropriate documentation, determination of eligibility as a student with a disability may take up to four weeks. A student may initiate this process at any time. Please visit the Disability Resources website for more detailed information regarding accommodations, documentation guidelines, the registration process, student responsibilities and timelines for accommodations requests.

If you have a documented disability and feel you require accommodations, please contact the DR office. Please be aware that you must contact the DR office each semester to request accommodations. This should occur at least four weeks before classes start. Without four weeks’ notice, we cannot assure the timely availability of materials or accommodation. Please visit the Disability Resources website for more detailed information: https://www.coconino.edu/disability-resources

FINANCIAL AID, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND VETERAN’S SERVICES

Phone: (928) 226-4219

Location: Lone Tree

Webpage: https://www.coconino.edu/financial-aid

CCC offers a variety of financial aid and scholarships to full and part-time students. Financial aid includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work Study (FWS), Federal Direct Stafford Student Loans, Federal Direct PLUS Loans for parents, CCC Grant, CCC Retention Grant, Comet Promise Grant, and CCC Scholarships. To apply for these types of Financial Aid, students are required to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is located online at https://studentaid.ed.gov. CCC also certifies Veterans Educational benefits for Veterans and their eligible dependents.  CCC has numerous scholarships available. CCC Foundation Scholarship applications are usually accepted for the following academic year from late December to the end of February. Depending on the organization providing the scholarship, applications are reviewed based on financial need, academic achievement, and/or community involvement. Please contact the office of Student Financial Aid and Veteran Services at finaid@coconino.edu for more information.

Federal Work Study

Federal Work Study (FWS) is an exciting opportunity available to students who have financial need as determined by the FAFSA. FWS jobs are listed on our website. Students interested in FWS must complete the FAFSA at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa and complete an application for employment online at https://www.coconino.edu/types-of-aid/federal-work-study. The Office of Student Financial Aid will then determine the student’s eligibility for FWS. CCC offices and community service agencies will review applications and contact students directly for interviews based on the skills and information listed on the application. FWS encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. When completing the FAFSA for the next academic year, students exclude FWS earnings from their earned income. FWS earnings are considered financial aid and are not included in the calculation of EFC or SAI, which can help some students qualify for more need-based financial aid in subsequent years.

Please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at 928-226-4219 for more information.
