CIS 261 - Cybersecurity Fundamentals


Credits: 4
Lab/Lecture: Four lecture.

This course provides students a comprehensive framework of practices for assuring information security. Students will learn how functions within cybersecurity help support and secure an organization. Content is interwoven with case studies of organizations experiencing the pitfalls of cybersecurity.
Course Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
1. explain the importance of a healthy security posture from the physical, logical, and operational levels;

2. implement a strong security defense posture;

3. analyze indicators of compromise and use appropriate tools and techniques to mitigate potential risk during incident response;

4. author internal security policies based on local, national, and international regulations to protect employees and stakeholders;

5. implement proactive vulnerability scanning methods and understand and analyze their output;

6. apply security controls to mitigate attacks and vulnerabilities based on industry standards;

7. understand the incident management lifecycle and respond appropriately to compromises.

Recommended: CIS 237 Introduction to Computer Security is recommended prior to this course.
