NAV 202 - Intermediate Navajo II Credits: 4 Lab/Lecture: Four Lecture.
Further development of speaking and writing communication skills with emphasis on compositions and readings of the Diné language. Taught in Navajo. Prerequisite: NAV 201 or consent of instructor. Course Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- analyze and evaluate reading passages in the target language that have a clear, underlying internal structure;
- demonstrate comprehension of the main idea and the majority of details of written descriptions of objects, people, places, and events, authentic passages that relate to topics containing subjective information and/or current events;
- Employ the writing process in the target language (e.g., organizing thoughts, composing, revising, proofreading) to describe, express opinions, and narrate a series of events using the past, present or future time frames.
- Give instructions or commands in the target language.
- Express feelings, opinions, and hypotheses in the target language using subjunctive and conditional constructions.
- Initiate, respond, and contribute to face-to-face conversations in the target language with a moderate amount of spontaneity using present and past tenses.
- Comprehend the main idea and a majority of details of narrations of events, descriptions and/or opinions from a speaker who uses natural pace and articulation of the target language
- Interpret cultural norms, values, beliefs, and regional variations within areas where the target language is used.
Prerequisite(s): NAV 201 or consent of instructor. General Education: Arts & Humanities. Special Requirement(s): Contemporary Global/International Awareness or Historical Awareness. Grading Option: May be taken for S/U credit with instructor approval.
