MAT 160 - Introduction to Statistics Credits: 3 Lab/Lecture: Three lecture.
Introduction to Statistics involves statistical tools and techniques used in applications. Includes collection of data, graphical and descriptive statistics, probability and probability distributions, point and interval estimates of population parameters, hypothesis testing, and correlation and regression. Course Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- use statistical methods to collect, organize, analyze and interpret numerical data;
- create and interpret graphs of data;
- calculate and use measures of central tendency and variability;
- calculate probabilities for events or combinations of events;
- predict the outcomes of an event;
- explain and use the Central Limit Theorem;
- estimate population parameters for one and two populations;
- recognize a variety of probability distributions;
- interpret confidence intervals;
- test hypotheses;
- determine and interpret linear regression and correlation;
- solve application situations using a variety of statistical methods
- and use technology to solve a variety of statistical applications
Prerequisite(s): MAT 140 or placement General Education: Mathematics.
